Recent water service interruption on Cobblestone Drive not related to Chanate Sewer Project
Last Tuesday August 10, residents on Cobblestone Drive in northeast Santa Rosa experienced a temporary interruption to their water service. We wanted to let you know that this interruption was not related to any of the work currently taking place as part of the Chanate/Mendocino Sewer Replacement Project. That water service interruption was the result of a necessary hydrant replacement, and the City apologizes for any inconvenience that residents may have experienced. Any questions related to last Tuesday’s water service interruption on Cobblestone Drive should be directed to Tracy Duenas, Supervising Engineer, Santa Rosa Transportation and Public Works Department, at tduenas@srcity.org.

Back-to-school = more traffic on Chanate Road
With in-person school now starting, we want to be sure that parents and caregivers who drop off and pick up their kids are fully aware of the ongoing construction work, and the detour of westbound Chanate Road. We’re in contact with several schools in the general area affected by the detour, as well as the Santa Rosa School District, and they’re helping get the word out to parents. An ad in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat ran (and a digital ad is still running) to alert those who will be driving to and from schools. And, the City has been reaching out via social media platforms and the City Connections Newsletter with this information.

Please feel free to email or print, and share the newspaper ad with anyone you know who may be impacted as they re-start their back-to-school drives.

Sewer pipeline installation work continues during westbound upper Chanate Road detour
The detour of westbound traffic (including bicyclists) on Chanate Road between Terra Linda Drive and Humboldt Street will be in effect into September 2021, to allow for installation of a large sewer pipeline under Chanate Road. If possible, members of the public should avoid the general area of construction throughout the project period. When using the detour route, please allow plenty of extra travel time. Click here for a map of the detour. During the detour, only eastbound, one-way traffic on Chanate Road is available. Pedestrian access is maintained on the north side of Chanate Road.

Work Crew

Although much of the current work is underground, motorists in the area should watch for flaggers and work crews, drill rigs, cranes, excavators, trucks, and other equipment, and be prepared for intermittent traffic delays. Click here for a cross section of typical bore pits similar to the work on Chanate Road.

In coordination with the City’s Fire, Police, and Public Works departments, the project team has prepared contingency plans to facilitate emergency situations that may occur during the detour of Westbound Chanate Road. If an evacuation is called for, construction on the project will be halted and, if necessary, the travel direction on Chanate Road (eastbound only during the detour) will be reversed to provide westbound-only movement for travel out of the area.

Wait on Stop Sign

Temporary traffic signal lights now in place will be used only in the event of an urgent public safety issue requiring westbound traffic movement or emergency vehicle access on Chanate Road. Do not proceed when signal is red.

Please be sure to review the City’s Know Your Ways Out web page and neighborhood travel route maps.
